Do You Like the Sound of Your Own Voice?

It is widely known that the eyes of a person are the mirror of his or her soul. But is that the only mirror? The doctor of ancient Rome Galen said that the voice of people reflects their personality as well as the eyes do. Probably you have met the intelligent and witty people who seemed to be quite pleasant and easy-going from the first sight but you couldn’t stand talking to them for more than a minute. That thing happened because the sound of their voice was unpleasant for you to hear. There is the opposite situation happening even more often than the previous one. The one who talks about banalities or even lies carries so much enthusiasm and charm in his voice that he easily finds followers.

There are some professions where the sound of voice is of the crucial meaning, and they don’t necessarily include only the job of singers or artists. The success of political activists, sales managers, coaches, teachers and psychologists depends upon their voice. If they didn’t possess a pleasant deep intonations they wouldn’t manage to keep their audience’s attention. How about the doctors? Which doctor are you likely to choose an appointment with? With the one whose voice is sharp or dull and monotonous or the one who possesses the mild soothing intonations?

Except professional interest we also want to build warm relationships with other people. That also requires pleasant coloring and vivid intonations of our voice.

Approximately 80 % of people are not satisfied with the sound of their voice. They complain that they talk too hoarse, squeaky, scrannel or dull.

The secret of this problem is lack of socializing or erroneous methods of upbringing in an early childhood. If the parents prohibit their children to cry, sing or laugh loudly, the last can’t learn to manipulate their voice. As a result the wrong intonations and unpleasant overtones prevent a person to open him- of herself and express the full set of emotions.

There are five problems that we face in this situation.

  • We talk too quietly so that other people can’t grasp our message properly.

  • Our voice sounds too dull to unveil our emotional state.

  • We speak too quickly omitting the half of a phrase pronounced.

  • We lack confident intonations.

  • We use wrong language which is non-natural for us.

If one manages to cope with these problems his voice will sound in a completely another way.
